New Release Rundown: April Tunes

As another month comes to a close and springtime is in full spring - a variety of new tunes have been released in April.
It has been a busy music month, from a new Taylor Swift album - The Tortured Poets Department, to a delay in the Co Op Live Arena opening.
Here are some additional new releases worth a listen!
Fontaines D.C. - Starburster
Irish rock band - Fontaines D.C. have dropped a new single - Starbuster, as the first track from their upcoming album ROMANCE.
Working alongside producer James Ford (of Arctic Monkeys and Blur), the song delivers a sharp, penetrative percussion throughout the track, and a boss bassline with tempo changes.
The song is said to be about lead vocalist - Grian Chatten’s recollection of a panic attack he had when in St Pancras station, London.
Right from the opening lyrics “It may feel bad” to the gasps for breath within the chorus - the track experiments musically with new sounds, to provide a psychedelic account of anxiety.
As the song itself states, the overall production of the song is definitely “momentary blissness” - until the next play.
Fontaines D.C. are to release their new album - ROMANCE, on August 23. The band are also commencing on a UK and Ireland tour in winter, with general sale available now. More details can be found here.
Metronomy - With Balance
Electronic pop band - Metronomy released a new track - With Balance, alongside Naima Bock and Joshua Idehen this month.
Creatively, the band have been releasing timeless tunes since their first album release in 2006, and their tracks ‘The Look’, ‘The Bay’ and ‘Everything Goes My Way’ are adored from their album - The English Riviera.
The simplistic guitar throughout the start of the track really compliments the building vocals, from Naima Bock. This then builds into a seamless beat switch to a more synth sound, as backing for Joshua Idehen’s verses.
The track is an easy listen with the message of resilience and determination shown throughout, especially within the “you’ll get there” lines which are a recurring motif in the tune.
The Academic - Easy on the Eyes
The Academic dropped a surprise single - Easy on the Eyes, last week as they were on their UK leg of the tour.
The Irish indie rock band have delivered consistent catchy tunes since their debut - Tales from the Backseat, in 2018.
The newest release is a grower of a track, with a building rhythm leading up to the “Can you feel it?” lines and effective guitar riff standouts throughout.
Lyrically, the song explores an almost doomed relationship which appears content from a distance - but was in fact “poisoned from the start”, and the denial of staying in that situation.
With growing popularity from around the globe, it is no doubt this track will be just the start of further releases after the success of their latest 2023 album - Sitting Pretty.
