Californian musical sister trio have returned to the music scene with three singles, just in time for Haim summer.
Sisters Danielle, Este and Alana are back with new tunes in readiness for a new album - ‘I Quit’.
After a long five years since their last album ‘Women in Music Pt.III’, the girl group dropped their revival single ‘Relationships’.
Track Relationships really describes the trials and tribulations of modern dating - the are we, aren't we - and the ultimate impact this can have on your sense of self and confidence. The song feels like the internal thoughts of navigating your position with someone else, and as with a lot of relationships the need for communication.
So far, this pop rock track is a definite stand out from the group. With a dynamic switch in tempo, and nods to their previous track 3am, this song is certainly worth a listen.
But one single wouldn't have been enough, as two more tracks have been released, with the latest track ‘Down to be wrong’ released alongside their US and UK tour date announcement.
Down to be wrong is a switch from Relationships, it shows more angst and eventual sense of becoming - especially with Danielle’s passionate drumming throughout.
“Oh I bet you wish it could be easy to change my mind
Oh I bet you wish it could be easy but it’s not this time
Oh did you think you could keep me busy holding the line?
Oh I didn’t think it could be so easy ’til I left it behind”
The track resembles a journey of finding your own clarity, and the courage that comes with removing yourself from a situation which is not serving you. It highlights the strength you gain from getting yourself away from a toxic situation. As is prevalent in the repeated lyrics towards the end of the tune ‘down to be wrong, don’t need to be right’, and it echoes that peace of mind can come before any other narratives.
The groovy soft rock track feels simultaneously familiar, yet powerfully different from their existing discography, and places the rest of the album in good stead for its release on June 20.
Notes of electric guitar, unpredictable tempo changes - and again, another stellar drum section make the second single ‘Everybody’s trying to figure me out’ another excellent choice. This alternative track will definitely be one many take comfort from, it cleverly encapsulates feelings of anxiety and being overwhelmed.
Touring in October 2025, the group is performing in London, Manchester, Cardiff, Nottingham, Brighton and Glasgow. Tickets are on sale now and further details on the upcoming I Quit tour and album can be found on their website.
